Brothers Andy and Jeff Skarda produce pure WI maple syrup from over 2,000 taps located between the family farm they grew up on and two neighboring sugar bushes in Denmark, WI. In spring of 2020, they collected about 40,000 gallons of sap producing around 1,000 gallons of maple syrup. Each year the maple sap harvest begins in late February and ends in early April. During this 6-8 week window of opportunity sap typically flows well for just 10-15 days when it is sunny and 40 degrees during the day with frosty nights in the 20s.
The Skarda brothers had the privilege of growing up on a small family run dairy farm right here in NE Wisconsin. Their childhood consisted of bailing hay, picking rocks, working land, and milking cows. Maple syrup gives them an opportunity to escape the normal hustle and bustle and return to their farming roots doing manual labor in the outdoors. Producing maple syrup creates lasting fun-filled family memories while providing valuable experiences to their own kids. This includes helping dad tap the trees, learning what it takes to run a small business, and all the experiences in between which build a strong work ethic and character.
